Jahlani Niaah, PhD

Lecturer, Rastafari Studies

Jahlani Niaah, BA History with Political Sciences (UWI), MA Modern International Studies (Leeds), PhD Cultural Studies (UWI), is a lecturer in the Institute of Caribbean Studies where he coordinates Rastafari Studies at University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. He is an embedded Rastafari scholar, internationally active particularly within Jamaican Rastafari diasporas as well as within the Caribbean and Africa. His research interests include African religious retentions, Rastafari, Reparation for Africans and repatriation to Ethiopia. Niaah, also a farmer and vintner, has recently completed his first solo authored book Lamb’s Bread: Rastafari and Ganja in Jamaica, to be published by the UWI Press.
